Summary

This lesson gives an introduction to the overall goals of the Defending Christianity Ministry, summarizes the obstacles to Christianity, and identifies the forces opposing Christianity.

The obstacles fall into the following three basic groups: emotional; volitional; and intellectual.

The intellectual group is an area where apologetics is uniquely suited. The premise is that God’s world and God’s word must be in harmony.  This involves: (1) showing the agreement between science and scripture; (2) using philosophical arguments of truth and logic to expose the flaws in other worldviews; and (3) providing evidence for the authenticity of scripture and secular historical evidence for Jesus Christ.

We will identify the major opposing forces to Christianity so the class is better equipped to recognize them and understand how to engage them in a way that uses evidenced-based reason, but is also non-confrontational.
